Author
Dr. Travis Schachtner’s views on leadership and employment ethics are shaped by decades of hard work and personal experience. Growing up on a family farm in rural Wisconsin, he learned that all work has a basic value that should be respected. His journey in leadership has taken him through various roles in public service, private industry, elected positions, and the military.
Dr. Schachtner holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Leadership, as well as a Doctorate in Career and Technical Education Leadership. His approach to leadership is influenced by Maslowian principles and ROL (Romanticization of Leadership) Theory. This approach requires leaders to develop an understanding and work to address the needs of all potential followers so that strong relationships can be created.
Currently, he teaches Electromechanical Systems at Saint Paul College. When asked why he chooses to teach that instead of leadership or management he explains, “We have enough managers and wannabe leaders in the world; we need more people who can actually fix things.” This statement reflects his belief in the importance of practical skills and hands-on problem-solving in today’s workforce.
Through his teaching, Dr. Schachtner aims to inspire students to become effective leaders who can make a real difference by addressing challenges and finding solutions. His commitment to fostering ethical leadership and practical skills continues to shape the next generation of problem solvers.
